A friend recommended I read “The Freaks Shall Inherit the Earth: Entrepreneurship for weird people” by Chris Brogan and I am finding it very interesting.
One of the parts I thought you might like to hear about is the section on what ‘success’ means for you.
“Success” is an intensely personal concept and in my experience no two people define it in quite the same way and this is why I was interested in Chris Brogan’s approach.
He describes his personal definition of success as “being able to say yes to what I want to do and no to what I don’t”.
How simple is this?
I thought about it and I agree: I like being able to say “Yes” to the things I want to do and I’d really love to be able to say “No” to the things I don’t want to do.
However, I have always believed that there’re things we need to do that we do not like or don’t want to do.
Some days I don’t like the idea of exercise … and I still do it.
There are days when I don’t want to talk to anyone … and I still do.
Some days I don’t like the idea of running a training session, making a coaching call, calling a client, writing a blog post … does any of this make me feel unsuccessful?
Hardly!!
It makes me feel normal.
I’m not sure I agree with Chris Brogan. What do you think?
