Coulda Shoulda Woulda The number of times I have heard someone saying “I shoulda done ….” They say, “I shoulda spent more time on preparing my presentation.” Many times I hear, “I coulda been …. Coulda had …. Coulda …..” It can sound like this: “I coulda started my own business but everyone told me that 4 out of 5 businesses fail” Often I hear people say “I woulda . . .” and this could take the form of “I woulda been great at in sport if I’d had more time to train” M friends and I have an agreement that when any of us hear each other saying one of these we say
“Coulda Shoulda Woulda” in a sing somg tone of voice just to remind each other of how it sounds. Usually the coulda shoulda woulda statements are followed by some kind of excuse for why something has not happened or why it didn’t come to fruition. These statements can be a habit. We try to rephrase the coulda shoulda woulda into “I chose to …” Let’s look at a couple of examples: “I woulda been great at in sport if I’d had more time to train” Reframe: “I chose to spend time at work/ socialising/ sleeping instead of training and that is why I didn’t become a champion sports people” OR “I coulda started my own business but everyone told me that 4 out of 5 businesses fail” Reframe: “I’m choosing to believe that I would be one of the 4 out of 5 who fail instead of learning everything I could to be the 1 in 5 who succeeds” OR “I shoulda spent more time on preparing my client presentation instead of just winging it.” Reframe: “I chose to spend the available time working on some thing other than the client presentation; facebook, writing a blog, surfing the net, so I wasn’t as prepared as I needed to be for the client presentation”. Try it for yourself, try reframing your coulda shoulda woulda s
And to help out I thought I’d share with you something I read some time ago:
- If something can go right, it will.
- Nothing is too good to be true; only what is good is true.
- Ease is more effective than struggle.
- Love is the law that always works. Life takes care of those who love.
- You are safe right now. Danger seems real only in the past and future.
- Asking for what you want increases your chance of getting it.
- Idols always fall on those who worship them.
- No door closes without a wider one opening.
- Life is good and it only gets better.
