You can charge a premium when you know how to answer: “What’s your difference …”
The one question I am asked over and over from business owners:
My market only buys on price, so how can I charge a premium for the value we create?”
One of my mentors says it like this:
“I believe that when your client or customer is choosing they always buy on the best price until they are given a reason to pay more.”
Don’t we all want the best deal – don’t we?
Of course the market buys on price!
Trust is absolutely the first thing we strive for in any relationship and underpins even the simplest sale. I trust that my barista will make my coffee the way I like it. I trust that a pair of shoes will last a certain amount of time before wearing out.
Beyond trust, there are really only three significant aspects in a buying decision.
The first aspect is that your solution solves the problem for your client.
The client wants to feel financially advantaged from choosing your option.
Your client is also looking for your solution to be relevant to them, as long as your price is fair.
It’s never just one or the other – it is always about all 3 of these
What does this mean for you? and your business?
That means you must be able to position what you do ahead of and better than every other offer available to a potential client.
In order to be able to charge a premium price requires you do the premium thinking needed to create an offer that stands out in the market …
… and that’s the gap I see most often.
95% of what you offer will be the pretty much the same as everyone else. So What’s your difference?
It’s critical to truly think in a deep and profound way to find the 1% that makes you unique, puts you in a completely different category in the mind of your clients – and allows you to price at a premium.
So here’s my question … what is your magical 5%?
