How many passwords do you have? Maybe you have 20? Or maybe you just have 3 passwords? … or do you have the same one password for everything!!
If I had my way everything would be eye ball (retina) and finger print identification – for everything! My house, my car, my bank account, my phone … everything!
Do you feel fatigued at trying to come up with new passwords all the time. I do. And those long multi character computer generated passwords – who could ever remember those!?!
World Password Day was earlier this month and the ‘#Layer Up Your Login’ message tells us we should have unique passwords for everything. 😎
Well I hate to be a spoil-sport but I find that is almost impossible. Have you tried to order a pizza online lately? Even THAT requires a login and password!!
So maybe you don’t create unique passwords. Maybe you’re like me and use the same password for lots of things… and then have a few really really tricky ones that no-one could ever remotely guess, like IngridThompsonIsALegend123. (Oooh, I rather like that one. 🤣)
Seriously though, I recently opened a new bank account and when I was setting it up I used my very secret squirrel password, and instead of “strong” or “weak” it said:
“That’s a really safe and a really cool password.”
I do admit to feeling just a little pleased and rather proud of myself.😇
It really is super important to have safe passwords but at the same time it does not need to be torture!
OK, so what to do?
Faced with the need for a new password here is something I was told years ago: Make up a sentence or use the first line of your favourite poem or book.
That’s what I’ve done and it makes it so much easier to remember passwords. For example, if you really like flowers and your favourite colour flower is red. Your password could be: Flower$Rred
Replace the s in flowers with $ sign and you meet the need for a “character.” And “are” becomes R and you have another capital.
Anyway, I think you get the general idea. Please don’t email to ask me if I think your sentence would work. (Unless you’d like me to try to login to you bank account😉.)
There is also this amazing online product called LastPass which I set up recently. If you don’t already have it you might want to check it out here.
It’s a password manager. You just need to remember the one password you create to set up LastPass – so its one password only. Very cool. My Virtual Assistant also has access to my Last Pass account which makes it so much easier then sending her all my logins – she LOVES it.
My take home – it’s really very very important to be vigilant about cyber security and potential identity theft. And its really NOT a great idea to use the same password for everything – so if you do, stop it now!
You certainly don’t want to give Dominos pizza the password to your bank account!
Have a terrific week and let’s go take care of our great clients and customers…..
