What next for Birkenstock shoes?
Birkenstock, the 250 year old German sandal company once associated with Steve Jobs and Hippies who make their own yogurt raised $1.48 billion in an initial public offering this week.
This is a company which is proud of it’s history of doing good works without much fanfare
They long resisted the call to be more public about their philanthropy
This footwear name is long associated with family ownership and with high quality.
Production takes place in Germany, where 95 percent of products are assembled, then hand-checked in factories owned by the brand
In 2022, thanks in part to partnerships with fashion designers like Dior and Valentino, the company reported over a billion dollars in sales, up from around $300 million in 2014
Fashion has decreed this sandal cool – with it’s cork-latex footbed that molds to the specific contours of one’s feet – not just for those with “bad feet”
Personally I have yet to own a pair … am a bit late to this party!!
Do you have a pair of Birkenstocks ? Do you love them? and wear them everywhere ?
I’m fascinated to watch what happens next with Birkenstocks
As with other businesses which go from family (or individual) owned and run to being Corporate or Privatised and answerable to shareholders …
I’m keen to watch with interest what next for Birkenstock?
