Health Check Tuesday; the Numbers that matter
Men’s Health Week has just been and has drawn attention to some rather disturbing information regarding men’s health in Australia
5 Australian men die every hour from a preventable cause or disease and 8 000 more men than women die every year in Australia from preventable causes and diseases.
Time has proven that early detection really works in preventing unnecessary illness and death in many cases. The stats for men indicate that more men now die from prostate cancer than women die from breast cancer. Early detection is vital, don’t wait until it is too late.
The general health statistics for men in Australia are pretty scary.
95% of men do not consume sufficient fruit and vegetables.
86% of men are overweight or obese
31% have a chronic health condition
You’ll hear more about this in the upcoming Men’s Health Week. There will be plenty of reinforcing messages: eat well, exercise, and talk to the doctor about the regular health checks.
