“Is it really that simple?“ asked Caroline
We were working through her financials and figuring out just how much her business was really making and calculating how much money she needed to make in order to pay her expenses and pay herself.
“If I knew this, I wouldn’t feel so broke all the time”
Every day when I work with business owners and business startup hopefuls, we talk about money, we talk about finance and we look at the numbers of business.
One of the most common responses is: “Is it really that simple?”
And yes, it is that simple. Most people think they need a PhD in Maths or need to be a Financial whizz to be able to understand the financial basics. Also, many people feel uncomfortable talking about money, talking about their finances.
The first step to getting your finances in order is to start talking about them.
Have you noticed that the more you avoid talking about something the more exacerbated it becomes? “Don’t mention the war” is a famous line from Fawlty Towers. “Don’t think of the pink elephant” and all one can think about is pink elephants.
When we avoid something it seems to magnify.
Let’s get into the habit of talking about money, let’s get comfortable talking about the numbers, and talking about finance.
To run a successful business requires a focus on money and financial management. I totally understand that you want to be in business to help people and to make a difference – me too!! That’s why I do what I do.
The thing is …. One of the requirements to be a business is to make money.
Interesting fact: most people don’t need as much money as they think they do. Most of my clients are not aiming to be multi millionaires. Most of you tell me that you want to create a comfortable lifestyle, take a holiday with your family and pay for school fees.
