“We don’t just learn by doing, we also learn by reflecting on what we’ve done.”
How true. This blog, I’d like to talk briefly about ‘taking stock’.
July is the start of a new financial year and I really feel it’s important to schedule one of your most important meetings. No, not with your accountant. Not with your staff. Not with your doctor.
With yourself.
Yep, with yourself. Grab your notepad and take yourself out for a coffee meeting, order your favourite coffee or tea, and give yourself a performance review.
Ask yourself: How have things been going in the past 6 months? What accomplishments are you most proud of? What could you have done better? Are you really where you want to be? Are you where you expected to be? And if not, what are some of the things you need to do, or the resources you need, to get you there? *
I know many people start their own business in order to “be their own boss” and to escape that annual performance review!! Well, I firmly believe that a regular performance review is a good thing. I’ve just spent 2 and half days with my MasterMind Group and I had to be honest about what I’ve achieved and where I am and what I’m working on. It’s super helpful to take stock and regroup and carry on!
I suggest you book in half an hour, or maybe longer, for a meeting with yourself for your own performance review. If you want to go the extra mile, you may also like to ask trusted peers how they see you.
Be firm, and fair. Be truly honest in your assessment and at the same time you can also be understanding. This is absolutely not the time to beat yourself up. We are all on our own path. Every small step takes you in the right direction.
If you’ve already had this meeting with yourself, congratulations, that’s terrific – how did it go? In any case, I’d love to hear about your performance review, please leave a comment and let me know how it went!
Have a terrific week and let’s go take care of our great clients and customers…..
I’m Ingrid Thompson and for the past ten years I have worked with hundreds of people to create and start their own business.
My own business, Healthy Numbers, provides business start-ups with face to face and online training. Specialising in the health and wellness sector, my methods and style have proven to be successful in a broad range of professions including Pilates and yoga studios, personal trainers, dance schools, physiotherapists, chiropractors and acupuncture clinics. I’ve also developed a high level of expertise in my ongoing work with Dental Practices.
Recently I’ve developed an online course specifically for people wanting to start their own Pilates Studio; it has been PAA approved in Australia and has received PMA approval in US for PD credits; super exciting! I enjoy both Pilates and yoga as well as surfing at Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach. I love an afternoon on the couch with a good read and any or all of my 3 cats.
I truly believe that everyone is looking for financial and emotional freedom to live their best life. I know from experience that the right training in financial literacy and business acumen to gain knowledge, develop understanding and build confidence are key to creating your own successful business.
I specialise in taking the complex and making it simple.
